How Far in Advance Should You Book a Luxury Italy or Greece Trip?
When should you start planning an Italy or Greece trip?
My best recommendation is to start planning a luxury Italy or Greece trip 9 to 11 months before departure, especially if your dates or preferred hotels matter to you. You do not need every hotel chosen before calling. There is no single booking window that guarantees the right trip or the lowest price.
A honeymoon with fixed wedding dates, a family needing connecting rooms and a couple with flexible autumn travel dates have different planning needs. I help you identify which arrangements should come first, what is available now and what cannot yet be confirmed.
Booking early helps secure your preferred hotel and room category. After a reservation is made, I periodically check for eligible lower rates or new promotions. If one appears, I ask the hotel or supplier whether the booking can be repriced or whether a credit or refund is available under its terms. Those adjustments are not guaranteed; availability, deadlines and nonrefundable conditions can limit changes.
What makes a trip worth planning earlier?
Tell me about the requirements that would be difficult to replace: a particular hotel or villa, a specific room category, a private guide, a cruise departure, a family celebration or limited dates when everyone can travel. We need to check those items before building the rest of the vacation around them.
Earlier planning gives us time to compare a workable route and alternatives. It does not mean every supplier has released rates or opened reservations, and it does not guarantee availability.
Should you book flights before the itinerary?
We should discuss the route before you commit to flights. A round trip into one city may create unnecessary backtracking if your vacation ends somewhere else. Arrival time, the first transfer, luggage and connections matter alongside the airfare.
I would not assume flights can safely wait because you are traveling on a major route. We need to check the actual dates, cabin, airports and fare conditions. If you plan to use points or book air yourself, tell me before purchasing so we can coordinate the land arrangements.
Planning early is different from paying for everything immediately
A planning conversation helps establish priorities and the order of decisions. Reservations follow the specific supplier’s booking window, deposit requirements and cancellation terms. We will discuss those terms before you accept the arrangements.
Lavishly Travel’s professional planning fee is nonrefundable and separate from your trip deposit. The scope and fee are agreed before paid planning begins. A proposal is not a confirmed reservation, and pricing or availability is not guaranteed until the applicable booking requirements are met.
What if your trip is only a few months away?
It is still worth having a conversation. I will assess whether your dates, budget, priorities and the work required are a fit. A shorter lead time may mean considering another hotel, room category, island or route; it does not automatically mean the trip is impossible.
Be honest about what matters most and what can change. Flexibility only helps when we know where you are comfortable using it. I cannot promise a particular room, fare or experience before checking.

The number of nights and travelers
Your total trip budget and whether it includes flights
The occasion: honeymoon, anniversary, retirement, family trip or another milestone
Any hotels, experiences or places that are essential to you
Anything already booked, including its cancellation terms
Your research or AI itinerary, if you have one

Can you review an itinerary we researched ourselves?
Yes. We can discuss consultation, partial planning or full planning based on what you need. Useful research may reduce the scope of work, but the fee is determined after our conversation.
