How Many Days Do You Need in Greece for Your Honeymoon?
For most couples, 9 to 12 nights in Greece is a comfortable honeymoon when you want Athens and two islands. A single-island escape can work in 5 to 7 nights. If Crete or a third island matters to you, allow closer to 12 to 14 nights. These are planning ranges, not rigid rules; your flights, ferry or air connections, and preferred pace decide the final route.
How many nights for one Greek island?
With 5 to 7 nights on the ground, choose one island and enjoy it. Santorini gives you caldera views and villages; Mykonos has a more social rhythm; Paros or Naxos can pair beaches with time to explore. You may be able to add a short Athens stay, but I would not squeeze in a second island just to say you saw it.
How long for Athens and two islands?
Plan around 9 to 12 nights: often 2 or 3 in Athens and 3 or 4 on each island. Santorini and Mykonos are one pairing, but Santorini with Paros or Naxos may suit couples who want a different pace. A change of islands takes more than the ferry crossing itself: you also have packing, checkout, port transfers, arrival and another check-in. I build those hours into the itinerary before recommending a third stop.
I have spent time in Athens, Paros, Naxos, Santorini, Crete and Mykonos. On Paros I rented a car to see villages and went kayaking; on Mykonos I rented a 4x4 and visited Delos. Those are very different days from lingering over a caldera view in Santorini. The right length depends on what you actually want to do, not a checklist of island names.
When does Crete need more time?
Crete is its own substantial journey. I drove across both sides of the island and visited Knossos, and I would give it at least 5 nights if you hope to explore beyond one resort area. Combine Crete with Athens and another island only when you have enough time for the distances and connections. Otherwise, Crete can be the heart of the honeymoon rather than an extra stop.
A simple way to choose your trip length
5–7 nights: one island, with Athens only if the flight plan makes it comfortable.
9–12 nights: Athens plus two islands at a relaxed pace.
12–14 nights or more: room for a third island or a fuller Crete stay, depending on the route.
