1. Seafood- Perhaps the most apparent food to try while on the island is the fish and seafood. In the Caribbean Sea, some of the most amazingly fresh seafood can be found. Take your pick between mahi-mahi, grouper, lionfish, prawn, or red snapper if you're looking for a simple dish to try. However, the options go on forever.

2. Pan Bati- This bread is usually on the side of every main dish served on the island, and with good reason. Pan Bati is a sweet flatbread that dissolves in your mouth. Although it is prepared with simple ingredients, it is far from being dull in flavor.

3.      Stews and Soups

Many of the local eateries and restaurants serve traditional Aruban stews and soups. Usually, the stews are full of chicken, fish, or goat meat, although you can still find soups and stews made with beef or lamb as we make it here in the states.

This is a spicy stew with goat's meat as a main ingredient. Serve over rice, funchi or potatoes.

This typical Aruban stew derives from leftover fish. In its most common form, white-fleshed fish (or shark) is stewed with local spices like annatto, basil, tomatoes and bell peppers.

4. Ayaca- Dried fruit and cashews adorn this delectable dish of steamed beef wrapped in a banana leaf. That's not all you get, though. There are a ton of ingredients used to create this unique, mouthwatering Venezuelan dish.

5. Keshi Yena- This authentic Aruban meal is a must-try! It includes a ball of cheese stuffed with meat or poultry that is spiced to perfection. Anywhere you go on the tropical island you will find a unique and off-beat version of this dish.

6. Funchi and Banana Hash- This combo is certainly one that packs a lot of tasty flavors! Funchi is fried cornmeal mush, often served with gouda and a side of fried plantains.

7. Pastechi- is a portion of famous Aruban street food (can be served as traditional Aruban breakfast or as a snack). You can find it offered by most street food vendors, and all of them claim to make it best. No matter where you get it, you don't want to miss out on this gouda filled pastry.

8. Hot Papaya Sauce- Often served on the side of meals, hot papaya sauce is the perfect addition to a meal if you can stand the sweet heat of papaya fruit mashed with hot peppers.

9.      Authentic Aruban Desserts

Pudding is a big deal in Aruba. You must order a helping of Pan Bollo (bread pudding with Ponche cream or rum, and ice cream) or Bolo di Banana (plantain pudding).

Aruba has reopened, with American visitors welcomed back on July 10. Visitors from Europe were allowed in Aruba as of July 1.

Aruba is an island best known for its crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches, however when you are here there is so much more to discover! Aside from having one of the most culturally diverse populations in the world, Aruba is also known for being the diving capital of the Caribbean. Shipwrecks and reefs dot the coastline, making it a divers paradise. There are also over 300 prehistoric pictographs to be discovered in the rocky caverns of the island, and because the island lies outside of hurricane alley, you are almost always guaranteed a sunny day year-round.

The tropical climate in Aruba means it is hot all year-round. Although the air is quite sticky, you'll benefit from a constant breeze, especially on the East Coast, where the wind is strong and persistent. The precipitation received is only around 20inches annually, and most of the rain occurs from October to December. The driest months are March, April, and May. With the sun being available from 7 to 10 hours all year, the waters are always warm enough to swim.

With a host of idyllic beaches just waiting to be explored, it really does feel like you’re in paradise.

Delicious Hawaiian Food and Beverages

Alright y’all, it’s my favorite time of the week…Food Frenzy Day! Today we are talking Hawaiian food.

Food in Hawaii is a combination of American, Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese, with influence from the 19th and 20th centuries. The food actively represents geography, history, and the traditional beliefs of its settlers. Plantation workers and later on, surfers wanted something nutritious as their main meal of the day. This led to the now-famous "lunch plate." Eventually, Spam became a signature food in Hawaii when the American servicemen came to inhabit the area.

After eating all of that yummy food, you will need to wash the food down with some Hawaiian beverages. Here are my recommendations for delightful Hawaiian drinks.

Drinks to Try

Mai Tai

A Mai Tai is a rum based cocktail with light and dark rums, almond syrup and pineapple juice. They pack a serious punch due to all the alcohol in them.

Blue Hawaii 

The Blue Hawaii is a tropical cocktail made of rum, pineapple juice, Blue Curaçao, sweet and sour mix, and sometimes vodka. It should not be confused with the similarly named Blue Hawaiian cocktail that contains creme of coconut instead of sweet and sour mix.

Chi chi 

One of my favorite Hawaiian beverages is the Chi chi. A cousin to the pina colada that swaps out the rum for vodka. It's perfect for those who love that pineapple and coconut combination, but not necessarily the sugar rush that comes along.

Hawaiian Lemonade 

The Hawaiian Lemonade is a tropical non-alcoholic cocktail made from pineapple juice and lemonade, and served over ice in a highball glass.

Hawaiian Island Surfer

Legend has it, that King Lunalilo, of the Kingdom of Hawaii, was in search of a cool drink to quench his thirst after a long day of surfing. It was originally served in a hollowed out pineapple. The mix of pineapple juice and coconut rum will whisk you away to your own Hawaiian island for the day.

Hawaiian Culture

Get ready to learn a little about the Hawaiian culture before your trip.

Hawaii is attributed to the Spirit of Aloha. It means to treat each other with love and respect. It's common for younger people to address an elder "Aunty" or "Uncle."

Always remove your shoes if you are invited into someone's home.

Leis

A "lei" is given as a gift upon arriving or leaving. It symbolizes affection. It represents a wreath of nature's gifts (flowers, leaves, seeds, nuts, etc.) It is improper to refuse a lei or to remove it in front of the person who gifted it. Once you're done wearing it, it should be returned to the earth by hanging it as a decoration, or through burying or burning.

Dance and Music

The culture and tradition of Hawaii are actually reflections of the land's innate beauty. The graceful Hawaiian dances, the meaningful and religious songs, and the various interesting art forms seem to be created with only one purpose, and that is to serve as instruments through which the beauty and the mystery of the place is expressed. The traditional dance of Hawaii are as vibrant as the rolling waves in its beaches. The moves are actually expressions of what Hawaii is, a land of beauty, grace, and spirituality. Music has also grown to be a familiar and popular part of Hawaiian culture. Ever evolving from a beginning of simple drum beats and chants, music today is filled with a multitude of artists and genres.

The Hula

Hawaii is known for its lively hula dancing performed by men and women. Presently, hula is for entertainment purposes, but a long time ago, it was performed at special ceremonies. Traditionally, hula dancers wear a grass leaf skirt, a flower necklace called a "lei," and sometimes they'll have a flower in their hair.

Want to know how hula goes? The dancer flows to a chant. The chanter beats their hand on a gourd, which is dried and emptied to make the rhythm. There are assorted types of hula. For instance, the Hawaiian hula dance is slow, while the Tahitian hula dance style is fast. 

Hawaiian Legends

Another facet of the culture lies in legends. Ancient Hawaiians were known to be storytellers. Legends were a way of documenting history, knowledge, facts and beliefs from generation to generation. Some of the more popular legends include the story of the demi-God Maui, who pulled the island up from the bottom of the sea, the wicked, deceptive and jealous volcano goddess Pele and her snow god sister Poliahu. There are legends about the Kumulipo, which tell about the creation of the Hawaiian Islands and others that tell fishing stories about the shark gods. The Hawaiian culture also has many superstitions and omens, which are widely known and still observed today. Rain and rainbows are considered blessings from the gods.

Religion

About half of Hawaii's current population practices a form of Christianity. Catholics make up the highest percentage of Christians, but Protestants aren't far behind. Almost any denomination which exists can be found here, as well as a fair number of non-denominational churches. There's even a Mennonite church, with the state's smallest congregation with less than 100 members. With Hawaii's large Asian population, religions from the Far East play an important role, too. Buddhism has the largest following among these religions, but Shinto, Hinduism, and other spiritual practices from the region can be found on the islands as well. A surprisingly large number of Mormons live in Hawaii. Jehovah's Witnesses also represent a notable percentage. Several synagogues serve Hawaii's relatively small Jewish population, while one mosque serves a smaller Muslim following. A few pagan groups also exist.

The BEAUTY of Hawaii

As a visitor of Hawaii, you can’t but be in awe of ALL the NATURAL BEAUTY Hawaii has to offer. While vacationing here, here are some of the natural things you can see.

Volcanoes

The Hawaiian Islands are of volcanic origin. They were created by a so-called hot spot on the ocean floor about 70 million years ago. The oldest Hawaiian island is Kure Atoll and the youngest one is the Big Island of Hawaii, which rose to the surface about one million years ago.

Mauna Loa, Kilauea, and Loihi are three active volcanoes in Hawaii. Mauna Loa is situated on the island of Hawaii, while Kilauea can be seen at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. In 1984, Mauna Loa last erupted. Kilauea has been continuously erupting since 1983. Meanwhile, Loihi is located underwater off the southern coast of Hawaii Island. It's been erupting since 1996, and if it continues to do so, this growing seamount may be visible at the surface, adding a new island. 

Landscapes

It's no secret that the islands of Hawaii are picture perfect! Imagine the ideal backdrop of majestic mountains, lush greenery, and sky blue waters. What you may not know is that a lot of great Hollywood titles were filmed in the Hawaiian Islands. Shooting on the islands goes as far back as 1976 when it hosted giant apes and, more recently, in 1993, for dinosaurs. However, romcom and adventure titles were the most common movie genres filmed in Hawaii.

Hawaii also served as a backdrop to some favorite TV shows such as Magnum, PI, TV Series Lost, and Hawaii 5-0. You can imagine how genuinely mesmerizing these islands are.

Waterfalls

Fantastic beaches, high waves for surfing, and luscious rainforests are some of the things that drive tourists to Hawaii, but let's not forget about the stunning waterfalls. Each one has its charm, and Hawaii is just brimming with them! The uniqueness of each waterfall only makes it more desirable to tourists.

Some waterfalls in Hawaii only appear when it rains, some kind of flow down the side of a mountain, but Akaka Falls is different. It has a thick column of water that always seems to have a steady stream. That's what makes this one enticing and unique!

One of Hawaii's most quintessential symbols is the sweet, vibrant plumeria flower. Many natives wear the flowers by incorporating them into a "lei." The lei goes around your neck, or upon your hair as an accessory. You can even indicate your relationship status through these blooms, over your left ear means you are "taken" and over your right ear means you are "available."

The scent of the Plumeria can be captured in plumeria-shaped scented floating candles, luxurious body lotions, and even beautiful island jewelry. These items also make great souvenirs and gifts to take home.

Beaches

The beaches create endless possibilities for water activities such as swimming, snorkeling, diving, bodyboarding, surfing, paddle boarding, windsurfing, kite surfing, kayaking, boating, and parasailing. Each beach has something unique to offer. The most popular snorkeling beach is found in Hanauma Bay in Oahu. It's home to over 450 species of fish, some of which can only be found in Hawaii. 

Hawaii is a paradise of clear blue waters that are perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. Hilo's Leleiwi Beach and Richardson Beach Park on the east side are ideal for snorkelers and scuba divers. On the other hand, the Kona side is known for its visibility and calm waters. It's also protected from the winds due to the massive slopes of Mauna Loa.

Want a memorable experience to take home with you? Well, Hawaii lets you swim with manta rays and sea turtles. Swimming within inches from you, you can marvel at their otherworldly presence. Observe them as they feed on microscopic plankton in the illuminated waters.

In awe of beautiful sunsets? Then, Hawaii is the destination for you! The sunset views are truly inspirational and unique. Spectators are in awe as red, orange, pink, and blue hues make their way toward the horizon.

Have you heard of the Green Flash Phenomenon? At a specific moment, the sun fades from view and is seemingly submerged in whole by the ocean, a temporary spot of deep emerald light can be seen in its wake. The color green is bent most, allowing visitors to view an intensity of green immediately following sunset. Aptly named for the breathtaking color palette painted at dusk, you may have heard of Oahu's famous North Shore Beach.  The sunsets in Hawaii are definitely worth your while. 

Ride the Waves

Are you dreaming of riding the big waves? Surfing was practically born in Hawaii, and it's deeply linked to its history and culture. There is no better way to enjoy the waves than on a surfboard in Hawaii. Almost every island offers one to two-hour surfing lessons. Experienced surfers teach the lessons in gentle breaks. For beginners, longboards are more comfortable to use, and a push from your instructor can get you started.

1. Merida

   To fully experience the culture and history of the peninsula, go to Merida, the capital of the Yucatan state. You have to step foot in Merida to feast your eyes on mind-blowing architecture and the beautiful colonial style houses, all of which exude rich and vibrant colors of the city. Merida boasts of broad central plazas and magnificent cathedrals. Narrow streets are safe and squeaky clean with quaint periwinkle, sherbet pink, mint green, and vibrant peach facades. 2. Chichen Itza

The 2nd most visited archeological site of Mexico today is a place called Chichen Itza which means "at the mouth of the well of Itza." After much publicity and promotion, on July 7, 2007, in Lisbon, Portugal, The Kukulkan Pyramid in Chichen-Itza which is known as "El Castillo" (the castle), is included in the list of the new seven wonders of the world.

For thousands of years, Chichen Itza has been known as one of the great cities of Central America. Here, you can view some of the massive ground stone buildings that were one Mayan Ruins on the nearly 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) of land full of archaeology and lush forest surroundings.

3. Chuburná

Situated on the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, to the west of the port of Progreso, is the little fishing port, Chuburná in the state of Yucatan in Mexico. Lately, it has been transformed into a tourist attraction because of its beaches. Some remnants of the Mayan civilization are still visible in the surroundings of Chuburná. Based on the 2005 census carried out by INEGI, the population of the town was 1720 inhabitants. It is considered one of the oldest places in the municipality of Progreso. The government of Juan Francisco Esquivel and de la Rosa declared Juan Francisco Esquivel and de la Rosa and Chicxulub as guarded populations of Yucatan in 1663 for the defense of the coast against the incursion of the pirates that operated from the Lagoon of Terms.

4. Las Coloradas

Head to the far corner of the Ria Biosphere Reserve to see the ever-popular Las Coloradas pink salt lakes. These lakes are used for industrial salt production, and as the water evaporates, an overwhelming growth of red algae occurs. Plankton and brine shrimp also habitat in these bright pink waters.

5. Yellow Town

The peninsula is no stranger to loud colors, as you may have noticed right away. So if you love color as much as the natives, head to the Yellow Town in Izamal. You will even get to see pyramids.

6. Valladolid

Go into the colonial city built atop ancient grounds to view the colorful (of course) architecture, including the San Gervasio Church. Make sure to take a dip in the freshwater cenote (Dzitnup). Then go try some of the great eats at the restaurants situated throughout the area.

Tulum offers its visitors some amazing ruins to explore! However, if you need to relax for a day, go to Tulum for sunbathing and yoga on the beach. The area is full of healthy food options, spas, and other great activities.

Isla Holbox

Cenotes

When a porous limestone bedrock collapses it forms Cenotes, these are natural swimming holes which reveals a secret subterranean world of groundwater pools. A lot of cave cenotes contain fresh water that has been carefully filtered by the earth, making them so clear and pure that you can see the marine life below. Open-air cenotes also have clear water, and often are home to vitamin- and mineral-rich algae that nourish and protect your skin. The Mayan villages surrounded these spiritual wells and believed that they can speak with the gods through them. Getting immersed in the clear waters with giant tropical trees hovering above will transport you back into prehistory.

Dzitnup Cenote- For a quick dip to cool off, visit the Dzitnup cenote outside of Valladolid. This cavernous pool of freshwater is majestic and perhaps the purest water you will ever see since the limestone helps filter it through the underground rivers.

The Yucatán Peninsula is such a haven for divers because it offers cenotes to high-speed drift diving. Most of the dive sites are found off Riviera Maya and Cancún in the Caribbean Sea, but there are also unexplored reefs along the northern coast of the peninsula. One can find mesmerizing caverns off Riviera Maya and several healthy reeds near Cancún including a gorgeous underwater museum called MUSA as well. The offshore islands of Isla Mujeres and Cozumel are famous among divers for their pelagic migrations and open ocean drifts. You do not want to miss this opportunity to dive in the glassy cenotes located around the Yucatan. Diving in the Yucatan is a combination of boat dives and shore dives.

Ihlara Valley: You will also want to explore the peaceful Ihlara Valley. Commune with the birds and frogs that feed on the river that runs through it. But the real treat of hiking this valley is the rest stop that offers a place for you to sit and enjoy the scenery. And the family that operates it even serves Turkish tea! It's delicious!

Pigeon Valley: This hike takes you through the popular Pigeon Valley, Uchisar Castle and White Valley. You’ll be treated to the sight of phallic rock formations at the end of the walk through White Valley in an area called Love Valley. Rock columns dot the landscape and the massive structures are breath-taking. Be sure to bring your camera!

Hot-Air Balloon Ride: You must take a balloon ride while in Cappadocia! This is an experience best done at dawn. A minibus will take you from your hotel to the boarding spot, where you’ll hop on a balloon with more than a dozen other passengers. Start your day gliding past treetops and canyon walls. It will be one of the highlights of your trip and an experience to remember.

Shopping: At the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, Turkey has long been a hub for trading, bringing exotic goods and spices to the area. The influence of foreign cultures greatly impacted the design and culture of Turkey. Walk through the bazaars, and you'll see the global influence of the region's now distinctive designs. Beaches: Imagine lying on a pristine beach under the warm Mediterranean sun. The largely untouched Turkish beach of Kaputaş is just as you’d imagine. There are SO MANY THINGS TO SEE while visiting Turkey!

Have you ever been intrigued by Turkey and ALL it has to offer to its visitors? I know I have. Today I will be telling you about some of the places YOU MUST SEE while touring Turkey.

1. Hagia Sophia

   Once the largest cathedral in the world, the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey, has stood for more than 1500 years along the banks of the Bosporus Strait. Soaring 160 feet high, with a diameter of 131 feet, the grand feature of the Hagia Sophia is its large central dome. While the church has been destroyed twice due to riots, the dome was destroyed a third time during an earthquake. To fortify the interior after the earthquake, columns from the ruined Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, were used inside the church.

2. Galata Tower

The Galata Tower is one of Istanbul's most iconic visuals. It is the highest and oldest tower in Istanbul. The tower was built in the 14th century as part of a defense wall and was heavily damaged in 1509 due to an earthquake. The tower has a long history of being a prison, observatory, watch post, and much more. Today the Galata Tower is a popular attraction for visitors and offers panoramic views of the city.

3. Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmed Camii)

Also known as the Sultan Ahmed Camii, the Blue Mosque in Istanbul is one of the most majestic Ottoman mosques in all of Turkey. The mosque's wonderfully curvaceous exterior features a cascade of domes and six slender minarets, making it immediately recognizable. Finished in 1616, visitors today have to venture inside the Blue Mosque to see how this famous building got its nickname. The interior is made up of over 20,000 handmade ceramic Iznik tiles that decorate the walls featuring many different tulips, roses, carnations, and lily designs.

4. Panorama Point

Get the best views over the Rose Valley, in Cappadocia, at Panorama Point. There are friendly vendors here selling fruits and souvenirs, as well as comfy seats on the valley's edge for you to sit back, eat your fruit and sip a drink while watching the sunset. What more could you ask for?

5. Sunset View Point

Sunset View Point , in Cappadocia, is worth setting your alarm for dawn and getting a glimpse of the more than 100 balloons that float above the Cappadocia scenery. The sight of the balloons, their colors magnified by the first splashes of sunlight, are guaranteed to wake you up. Talk about an Instagram-worthy picture!

The best time to catch this magnificent view is about a half-hour after dawn, but check with your hotel staff the night before to make sure the balloons will be flying.
